St. Petersburg and Kazan students became the first national champions in Enterprise Protection against Internal Cybersecurity Threats category as part of DigitalSkills 2017, Russia’s first IT industry championship that meets WorldSkills standards. The event held on December 11-15, 2017, at Innopolis University (Republic of Tatarstan) was organized by WorldSkills Russia and supported by the Tatarstan Government and the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media. InfoWatch Group became DigitalSkills partner and prepared the competition program for Enterprise Cybersecurity category.
In this category, gold medals were awarded to both Ilya Popov, student at Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI), and Kirill Kukartsev, student at Institute of Computer Technologies and Information Protection at the Tupolev Kazan National Research Technical University, with the third place shared by Moscow residents: Aliya Akhmatullina, specialist at telecom operator MTS, and Daniel Dolash, student at Vostrukhin College of Telecommunications No. 54.

As part of the business agenda at the DigitalSkills 2017, Andrey Zarubin shared key cybersecurity challenges and competencies young specialists must have to be successful.
The DigitalSkills 2017 brought together more than 100 contestants, including university and college students and young specialists of IT companies, who competed for a total of 23 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze medals and were judged by both international experts of WorldSkills Russia and representatives of partner companies. The championship covered network and system administration, engineering drawing, business applications, web development, mobile robotics, enterprise protection against internal cybersecurity threats, Industrial Internet of Things/efficient production procedures, blockchain, mobile app development, augmented and virtual reality, communication backbones, quantum cryptography, and machine learning.
The next WorldSkills International Championship will be held from August 29 to September 3, 2019, in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan (Russia).
Background
The competition program of the Enterprise Protection against Internal Cybersecurity Threats category is based on InfoWatch Traffic Monitor, a solution protecting enterprises against data leaks and internal threats, and developed jointly with SUAI and North-West Center for Strategic Research. This category was first introduced at the WorldSkills Hi-Tech 2017, the fourth national championship among cross-industry workforce in high-tech industries.
