The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is the data protection requirements developed and enacted in January, 2005 by the international payment systems Visa and MasterCard. The given standard also supports other payment systems: American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB. The PCI DSS standard was elaborated to increase protection of electronic trading and payment systems, to provide secure environment to store card holder personal data and to reduce incompliance between different requirements to pay card security as well as to modify and rationalize business-processes and to reduce costs.
