ABBYY OCR integrated into InfoWatch DLP software

Now InfoWatch Device Monitor Traces Confidential Information on Printed and Copied Images

Moscow, Russia (December 10, 2009) - ABBYY, aleading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, and InfoWatch,an expert in developing data leakage protection (DLP) software, announced their integration of ABBYY FineReader recognition technologies into InfoWatch Device Monitor, a DLP application preventing confidential documents and their parts from being printed out and copied into various mass storage devices by employees.

The control system of InfoWatch Device Monitor allows making shadow copies of all analyzed documents and texts in corporate network and send these copies to the central server, where it is decided, whether certain data contain confidential information or not. If the confidential information is detected, then copying and printing of the document can be blocked.

Early DLP products were able to monitor data both in some types of PDFs and text documents created in MS Word and other word processor programs. However, there remained a threat of information leakage, as it was possible to copy files into storage devices and print out scanned images of confidential text, digital photos of important paper documents, and PDF files without a text layer. With InfoWatch Device Monitor and ABBYY’s award-winning OCR technologies, a new level of confidential information security has been achieved.

“We are very glad to provide our customers with better data security. We believe that these two complementary technologies are integrated for user’s benefit,” said Svetlana Ashkinazi, Director of Product Department at InfoWatch.

Monitoring of text on images is carried out by ABBYY FineReader recognition technologies, which ensure superior recognition accuracy of data on printed texts and images, and support 195 languages, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK). The comprehensive language coverage and high quality recognition results from ABBYY together with advanced DLP know-hows from InfoWatch make a successful combination to prevent any data leakage activities.

“Integration of OCR technologies into data leakage protection software is a very new and important field for us. We are rather glad that InfoWatch has chosen our recognition technologies for data security optimization. ABBYY FineReader technologies will help to make DLP solutions more versatile to monitor any data regardless of the types of documents,” explained AndreyIsaevDirector of the Technology Products Department at ABBYY.
