Uni apologises to students for privacy breach

The University of Newcastle has apologised to several thousand students after personal information was posted online.

The University says the student administration information inadvertently became available in an 'online test environment'. It says it has carried out extensive checks and found that the information was not downloaded by any individual.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Andrew Parfitt says the incident was caused by a configuration error with one of its servers. «So we've written to about 4,300 people who've been effected to let them know about the breach and we're very sorry that this has occurred».
