Tweaking digital data security requirements for federal agencies

Suggestions can be submitted until year's end concerning FIPS 200

Mandatory security practices for federal agencies will probably not be revised until next February, and until then the National Institute of Standards and Technology will continue to accept suggestions for the revision.

Special Publication 800-53 concerning digital security controls is scheduled for revision, and will be released in a companion document titled Federal Information Processor Standard (FIPS) 200. The document wil describe procedures that will be mandatory for federal agencies to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Suggestions for the revision can be submitted until December 31 through a special e-mail address: sec-cert@nist.gov.
