Atomic bomb details courtesy of the US government

The inconsistencies displayed by the US government are breathtaking. For example, it can declare war on terror and launch invasions of several states, while at the same time publishing bomb-making materials on an official site. According to experts at InfoWatch, that kind of negligence could lead to very real casualties.

The Web site in question contained about a dozen documents with charts, diagrams, equations and long narratives about bomb building that nuclear experts said went beyond what was available on the Internet and in other public forums. The site was apparently set up as a propaganda tool to justify the invasion of Iraq. It appears the details were taken from the Iraqi military.

After The New York Times informed the government about its concerns, the site was closed down while checks are carried out on the contents of all its materials.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has already passed on its concerns to the US government. The US military has also expressed its concern over the fact that details potentially endangering national security were freely available on the internet.

Denis Zenkin, marketing director at InfoWatch noted: “The problem of secret data appearing on the internet has been around for a while. But incidents like this one are absolutely unacceptable. Millions of people could suffer as a result of such negligence.”
