InfoWatch, a leading developer of comprehensive enterprise security solutions, unveils a data leakage protection technology for AutoCAD files.
A technology of binary data digital fingerprints, which detects confidential information in AutoCAD drawings and 3D designs, has now been propelled by InfoWatch developers to the next level.
The binary digital fingerprint technology flawlessly identified the transfer of confidential data but used to have a significant restraint: changes made to file caused mismatch with its digital fingerprint and thus prevented any further interception by the system. Therefore, such approach was recommended only for rarely changed documents and was always shadowed by other, more flexible data analysis technologies.
Furthermore, until recently, most of the DLP systems could not directly handle binary data, including AutoCAD files. Creation of digital fingerprint involves processing of meta data (names of drawing elements, etc.) or other text environment. If such text information is removed from the file, the document is no longer detected by the system and thus exposed to data leakage.
New InfoWatch technology not only processes binary data directly but also identifies confidential files despite any number of changes made. Users are able to configure how sensitive the system should be to the number of document modifications.
"The AutoCAD recognition technology is certainly a competitive advantage of InfoWatch Traffic Monitor," believes Vadim Kuznetsov, International Sales Director, InfoWatch. "Although Autodesk products are a long standing CAD standard, until recently binary data protection technologies had been dramatically immature. With this new flexible and reliable technology, a vast number of enterprises will be able to protect their proprietary assets”.
«DWG files created in AutoCAD make a significant share in intellectual property of any company that employs design engineers and CAD designers. Both classified facilities and players in highly competitive markets may be interested in controlling the exchange of such files. Indeed, engineering file formats are as complex as engineering sites being designed due to an enormous number of various elements and meta data, and creating an effective DLP technology for them is a real challenge. This is why we are thrilled to welcome a new Russian product in this area,» noted Vladimir Ananiev, Technical Consultant, Autodesk Developer Network..
